If he was skeared of diying he wouldn't be what he is. A true Christian is ready to die in the name of Christ if he was asked to ( I don't mean kill others in His name)
what i mean is that many people in history have preached, and continue to preach the good news of Jesus Christ without the fear of death. benedict XVI is going to Turkey not in attetion to the muslims but to the Orthodox church. Everything is pointing out to a reconciliation and healing of the great east-west schism, that is what he is gonna go do. Offer a joint mass with the Bisop of Constantinople and the other Patriarchs and Metropolitans in Constantinople itself! To re-unite the catholic Church in one body, if he is martyred in the process, which is something he knows quite well can happen then that is what it would have to take (in his thinking)
God bless

Pope Benedict XVI leaves for Turkey on November 28, 2006 for two or three weeks. He said that he feels that God is calling him to speak the truth in love to all people.
In particular because of the misunderstanding of his words in Germany earlier this fall, he feels he must enter the dialog between Islam and Christianity.

Now why on earth would Turkish Muslims want to kill him?Except there are radical groups of all beliefs in most countries who will try and kill anyone of note just to draw attention to their cause. That is why they have the popemobile. He is going there to discuss not convert.

I think he will go and I think an attempt for sure will be made but, I don't think he is afraid. (I think they will be too vigilant to let something actually happen)
