I never opened a bottle of wine before tonight! But dislodging the cork from the corkscrew is killing me, what is the proper method, do you just pull until it gives way? It's pretty firmly wedged on, but I don't want to break the screw or ruin the cork in the process of trying to remove it.

You just unscrew it counter clockwise so it comes off the corkscrew.

most electric cork screws have a way of opening the screw compartment to remove obstructions or replace the screw if it becomes damaged since you didn't tell us what brand/model you have, its hard to guess... but if you can't open the screw compartment, activate it, so it lowers the screw , where you should be able to grab the cork and hold, so when you trigger it to screw back the cork will be left behind finally, if neither of these work, just use an exacto knife and stick it in and start hacking the cork off the screw

When the cork dries, it tightens. Put the corkscrew and cork in a pan of water for an hour or so, THEN it should unscrew easily.

Slowly pull the cork from the bottle....and always keep an extra cork on hand in case the cork does break. This happens when the bottle was not stored properly.

Grab the cork in one hand - opener in the other hand and then "unscrew" it.

Twist it in the opposite direction to how you put it on. It should come off fairly easily and in one piece
