First masturbation is a sin because it affects purity and leads to worst sins like pornography and sex out of marriage. I am a Catholic Christian too and I've been under going the same thing. I don't plan to lose my virginity, at least not in a senseless and lustful way. I've been trying for months and I have finally quit for good I haven't done it in over a week which is harder than it sounds. So believe me it's possible and I recommend it so much because I feel better about myself more than every time I masturbated. So the only real way to release that sexual energy is to take control with help from God.

I'm an atheist, but don't catholics believe that we're all sinners? Yank away, and just ask for forgiveness from the priest. Doesn't that make it all right? Personally, I think the mortal sin view on masturbation is silly, and that masturbation is good for you, good for your future sex life, and fun - so why not do it? You're doing it in private so you're not hurting anyone. I just don't get the point of demonizing it in so many young people's minds - it just hurts their sex lives later in life. Apparently you don't share this point of view, but maybe you should think about if you really believe that masturbating is a mortal sin, or if you have just been told this your whole life. Think about it, if you were born to different parents, you might have a completely different view on this topic. So is it just blind luck what our opinions on certain things are? I would suggest you think about this, and form your own opinion. If you are not ready to get sexually involved with someone else, there are no alternatives for releasing sexual energy besides masturbation. However, you say you still want to be a devoted catholic. I think that's unfortunate, given your dillemma. But please know this - the VAST majority of devoted catholic men and many many catholic women still masturbate. I guess you just have to decide what you believe and what your priorities are.

The bible doesn't quite address masturbation, however, it does state in many places that sex is to be between a woman and a man as it represents the mystical union of Christ and his church. I'm not sure why the Catholic church calls it a mortal sin as I'm not Catholic but if you are Catholic and this really concerns you regarding your spiritual condition, you should speak with a priest and get their official stand on this subject. I highly commend you for your stand on virginity. You will not be sorry. It is a precious gift to both yourself and your eventual partner. Keep your mind on healthy things (be careful what you watch and read and think on) and keep active - that really helps keep those sex hormones under control.

"Masturbation is sex with someone you love." Right out of the Holy Book...or was it Woody Allen? Well, some scientists (those guys with the funny hair, german accent and dressed in white lab coats) say that masturbation is in fact good for your health and stuff (I bet they say that because they jerk off so much). Don't know if that's true, but I can guarantee you that it doesn't do you any harm and it relieves your tension. So, if your are calm you will commit less sins, right? Oh, forget about that and just do it already, it's damn good!!

It's only bad for you if you happened to have been doing some woodwork and you forgot to put down the sand paper. On a serious note, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Go ahead, masturbate all you want and get rid of the guilt stuf. The guilt stuff is dangerous to your psyche and to your relationship with god.

Masturbation is not a "sin." It's a healthy, normal thing to do to relieve sexual tension. Would you rather have sex with some random stranger at the risk of a sexually transmitted disease? I didn't think so.
Also, you won't be a midget or grow hair on your palms either. However, you could go blind (if you shoot j!zz in your eye, lol).

Just because a bunch of fanatics freak out at biology doesn't make it bad. In fact, the occasional release is supposed to help prevent prostate problems because it's natural for that area to get some exercise. I'm sorry you've had to grow up in this ridiculously idiotic, Puritan-bred country that gets more upset at a movie where people kiss breasts than one where they lop them off with a meat cleaver.

Assuming you are male...
You'd have to check with your church's current policies, but historically castration has been an accepted alternative for those who wish to be free of those pesky sexual urges. Known as "eunuchs" or "hijras", these neutered fellows held an exalted position of respect, and were employed to guard harems for royalty.
A side benefit to castration, if you're nipped early enough, is the preservation of your high singing voice. The boys who had been castrated early enough never went through puberty, and therefore remained sopranos their whole lives. They were known as "castrati" and were revered for their ability to sing the most beautiful praises to the church.
If you're female...
Don't worry about it. The Bible only forbids men from tossing off. It says not to spread their seed upon the ground. We don't have to make penance for the twenty million potential lives we just wiped on a kleenex and flushed, unlike men.
One egg, one Hail Mary.

No, men who masturbate have a lower incidence of prostate cancer later in life. Masturbation, in moderation, is actually healthy for the body.
Now, here's my take on the whole "Masturbation is a sin" thing....
Long, long, long ago, when the Bible was written, it was believed that a man produced a finite amount of semen and sperm in his life. That is, once the body produced its quota, it would stop; no more sperm, no more babies.
It was believed that "spilling your seed" (masturbating) while not in the act of making a baby was wasting that mystical baby-making power of the sperm and therefore a sin.
We now know that men's bodies continue to make sperm for a very, very, very long time--regardless of the number of times he masturbates or "spills his seed".
Now, armed with this knowledge, you can decide for yourself if masturbating is a sin or not.

I believe masturbation to be a sin as well (I'm not catholic), but I also believe that any sexual contact outside the bonds of marriage are a sin as well. You just have to learn to keep your cool, know what your limits are when together with someone. Don't put yourself in a comprimising position that could ultimately lead you to sin (whether it be you alone or with someone). Maybe eat lots of chocolate? lol. Chocolate has a substance in it that releases hormones and gives you a feeling of satisfaction without that climax. And yes, this is true, not a myth. I learned it in medical school. Good luck!
