First of all, it is not a baby. Baby bird season is well over and there are no babies at this time of year. Secondly, it is illegal for you to treat and care for the bird without the proper state and federal permits. That bird needs to get into a licensed wildlife rehabilitation center immediately. If the beak is not repaired in time it may never grow back and the bird will not be able to be released back to the wild.

Typically the bottom beaks do not grow back or if they do, not very quickly. It can be rebuilt with a dental procedure that was experimented with about ten years ago. If there is any of the bottom beak hanging off, super glue is the answer.
If it is a wren, get it meal worms, dust them with a vitamin powder and calcium powder. They'll eat about 100 each day. You should give him Gatorade at room temp in an eye dropper if you just got him. Handle him as little as possible. Call your animal ER to see if there is a rehabber locally.
Keep us posted.

I would try to find a wildlife rescue in your area. They'll have vets working with them who will know. If the beak doesn't heal properly, the bird will be unable to eat....forever. If you don't have a wildlife place near you, call a local vet. They should have a basic idea about wildlife. Good luck!

we use car body filler to re build the beak, but this is on falcons. with something as small as a wren it would be incredibly difficult to an amateur. the best bet is take it to a vet, but they will probably say the kindest thing to do is to put it to sleep.

Just let it grow, it will eventualyy grow back. Birds beaks are like fingernails, they just keep growing, thats why you need things in captive bird's cages to trim the beaks.

If the piece is still attached you can use superglue on it. I have done that as a temporary fix till I could get to the vet.
I would take it to the vet or the local Audubon society or wildlife rescue group in your area.
Good luck!

I'm with Jennifer (I think that was her name...). We have a few wild life rescues around this area that deal with vets who are experts in rehabilitation and wildlife re-entry.
To get a local number try your local humane society and/or your local animal control.
