There are a lot of great answers here - I just want to add one other possibility. Project Linus is an organization that collects and distributes new homemade blankets (quilted, crocheted, or knitted) for children who are "seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need." Check out their website below. There may already be a chapter in your area that you can contact, or you can mail a blanket to any chapter. You might also consider starting a chapter in your area if there isn't already one.

Project Linus was named after the Peanuts cartoon character who was seldom without his security blanket.

Homemade quilts can also be donated to the Salvation Army to be given to needy families, or if you have a local homeless shelter or Mustard Seed facility, they can use them too. The Red Cross will also take them.

For something like that, I go with a Senior Citizens center or care facility. Our local hospital also has a seniors unit. A hospice group would also be nice.

We donate good blankets to the local Hope Center for drug/alcohol re-hab. Older ones, we give to the Humane Society.

any homeless shelters!, also woman's shelters and places that cater to teen runaways. Call your local community resource center or even the chamber of commerce they could give you some numbers. also orphanages in your community and in other countries, check with local churches also, sometimes they will know or they will get them to the most needy. I have also gone around at night to the homeless in my community w/ coffee cups and hot chocolate and tea packets in them, it is very much appreciated! also homes that take in unwed mothers, there are many many places to give too! thanks for your concern! we need more people like you
