Live and work on a farm.We farm hill sheep(for some strange reason!) If you don't mind hard work for little pay, even less thanks and the endless form filling in and ridiculous bureaucracy that is coming in all the time,go for it! You'll never need to go to the gym again, will never be rich but you will get a sense of well being and contentment from it. For me it is a good life but not for material reasons and I wouldn't change it for a gold cow!!

Its a good life, but you also live poor. Most Small Scale Farmers have other Jobs. Hard Long Hours.
Especially if you are a Sheep or Pig Farmer.
My parents own a farm, but don't farm it actively. They rent out the fields to other farmers for winter use and make Hay in the Summer.
We actually build houses!

Yes, grew up on a farm and work on one now--at least part of the year. It's a VERY good life. You can make a small fortune at farming--if you start with a big one. It's very difficult economically but every other way is excellent.

It is a good life in the British Isles but it pays lousy wages for very hard work. The up side is you will be healthier, fitter and better looking (due to the fresh air, good food and sunshine). Have no idea about stateside or elsewhere!
Pretty much all farm work is mechanised now! Cows milk themselves (almost). It helps if you are good wiith machinery.

No but my dad did. It was a while ago and i think he was only paid 5 pounds a week which would have been worth more back then. He had to get up at 4 am to milk cows and clean out all the stalls. I think he worked until 10pm so it was a long day - think it was for 6 days a week too. Not getting much sleep or money doesnt soud that good to me and i wouldnt really want to milk cows and clean up after all of them. he worked on one during his gap year to gain experience though so it wasnt a permanent thing. I think he did like it but i dont think it would be for me.
please pick me for best answer :D

Want a day off? Don't
Want fulfillment? Do
My late good friend Alan ran a sheep farm in NZ for many years.
What a lovely man. How much he taught me - a London boy !!
But he rarely got a day off. And then he died.
I guess its all down to what you are used to
