Just found this on blood donor website:

Frequency of major blood groups in the UK population

Rh (D) Pos 37%
Rh (D) Neg 7%
Total Blood Type O

44%
Rh (D) Pos 35%
Rh (D) Neg 7%
Total Blood Type A

42%
Rh (D) Pos 8%
Rh (D) Neg 2%
Total Blood Type B

10%
Rh (D) Pos 3%
Rh (D) Neg 1%
Total Blood Type AB

4%
Total Rh (D) Pos 83%
Total Rh (D) Neg 17%
So it would seem that AB neg is the rarest with only1% of Britains population, then Bneg with only 2% of population.

The Rarest Blood group is AB Negative. O Negative has the greatest demand though, as it can be given to anyone.

Your blood is rarer than your partners, but that doesn't necessarily mean your partner's is needed more. In theory, the rarer the blood, the less people that will need it, but also the less people will be giving it. Less rare blood is given more, but is needed more too, so it probably all balances out.

O negative can be given to anyone and O positive can be given to anyone with a positive blood group, so O is the most needed, and luckily the most common. Well O positive is common, O negative is still quite rare, but not as rare as the other negative blood groups (A, B & AB).

It depends on the roots of the majority people in the area. For example, in Asia the most common group is B Rh +. In Europe the common group is A Rh +. The rarest one is AB Rh neg, but the most on demand will 0 Rh + as the universal one. And don't blame someone who never give blood: they are not ready for that ... yet

AB negative is the most unual, whereas A is the second most common in this country.

Unless it's an emergency, doctors will always cross match your blood group before giving you blood so they can give you the same type.

There are very few AB neg. donors but similarly very few people who need it! Lots more people need A but there is a higher percentage of donors. If your blood is very unusual indeed you may be asked to give blood more regularly to help out perhaps one particular patient with a similarly unusual type who requires it regularly.

Regardless of your blood group, I would advise everyone who can donate to do so. You could be saving someone's life and at peesent only 6% of the eligible population donate.

AB Rh Negative is the rarest blood.
All blood is either A, B, AB or O, and then they are also divided into the Rh factors of Positive or Negative.
I have the AB Rh Negative blood and can give blood to anyone but cannot take blood unless it is Rh Negative, and the best for me to take is the entire AB Rh Negative.
The blood that is in the greatest demand is O because it is the universal blood.

Most useful blood is Oneg, because it can be given to anyone. The most demand is for the commonest groups, obviously, which are APos and OPos. There are hundreds of other blood groups, down to individual(called 'private') blood groups, but the O,A,B,AB system and the Rhesus system are the most important.Differences in the other groups have less effect, but must still be tested for,so every pint of blood must be cross-matched before it is infused.
