Your parents need to take the cats to an animal shelter to have them euthanized as it is more than likely they have panleukopenia or Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). There's no cure for either and allowing them to die is inhumane and outright animal cruelty. Your other questions mention you breed German Shepherds so what's to stop your parents from neglecting the dogs too! Barn cats suffer like humans. If you were dying wouldn't you expect someone to help you? Animals are helpless and need humans to act on their behalf!! You are only 14 and it's an adults responsibility to lead by good example for their children, which your parents seem to lack and you have a better sense knowing better by pleaing for help here. Unfortunately no one here can tell you what Exactly is causing your cats to die so quickly without seeing them and running tests--it's the only way--sorry.

If all cats do die, it's very critical to not get any cats until you know what caused the others to die or you'll have more cats who will die from the disease that can live in the ground soil for many months. Any vet can tell you this so you don't need to take my word.

Just so you know your parents can be charged with animal cruelty by denying necessary medical treatment. Call any animal shelter anonymously and they'll tell you about this law. Again, don't take my word, call and find out for yourself to learn the truth. They don't care you are 14, you have the right to know the truth about the rights of animals and what happens if people don't provide necessary medical care to any animal who is suffering that they own.

There are a few things that cause this, potassium defficancy linked to rat posion (thats how rat posion kills...) if they ate something laced with the rat poision then that would be what caused it. Secodnly, someone crushing up asprin and placeing it in something to bait the cats, this is a common way people poision the animals they do not want arround any more, and this is exactly how they die. it destroys there liver, three kidneys, damages heart tissue, and causes the lineing of the stomache to bleed. as far as viral, there isnt anything that i know of at this point that moves through cats that fast this is definatly a poisioning, or an exposure to something deadly. check there sleeping places, make sure that there isnt a bunch of moist material that is harboring mold, mold gives off an aflotoxin that would cause such symptoms also. If you have more questions please feel free to call me four three two nine seven eight fifty-nine zero two.

Panleukopenia and distemper are the same thing. From what you describe it is likely that is the problem you are dealing with. It is highly contagious. You can't get a proper diagnosis from an internet and also it is illegal for anyone including a licensed vet to make a diagnosis without seeing your pet in person and doing an exam. Also it is against the law for a vet to dispense meds without having a proper diagnosis.
The cats should be vaccianted for this especially since they are outdoor/barn cats. Cats in the type of enviornment these cats are in should be vaccianted for distemper, FeLv and rabies and kept on a regualr deworming schedual.

sounds like someone is poisoning them, or they ate some rat poison, snail bait or something else toxic. Do they have access to any of these things?? Why did you not take the cat to the vet at first signs of symptoms....the vet may have been able to tell you it was poison right away and you could have found the source and saved the other 5 cats lives. Take your cats to the vet!! If you cannot afford to keep pets then give them to more responsible owners.

There are many things this could be Feline Panleukopenia, Leukemia (very common and one of the top cat killers), FIV, or FIP. It could even be something as simple as Upper restiritory infections. If non of the cats have been vaccinated they may just have low immune systems. The only way to know for sure is to have them examined by a vet and tested for the diseases. If it's Leukemia that is very contagious from cat to cat and you may have to euthinise them. It will kill them anyway and they will suffer and spread it to any cat they come into contact with.

The deadly virusus like distemper can survive in the environment 3 months or more. Everything needs to be bleached and you should not get anymore cats for a few months. If they have already been exposed, not much you can do. Make sure they are not beening posioned. Rat posion?

You need to have a necropsy (an animal autopsy) on one of the cats that died to be sure.

Or just take one to the vet and tell the vet to give you enough medicine to treat them all.

Just because they are "only barn cats" doesn't mean that you shouldn't bring them in for vaccinations.

The best solution is probably going to your neighbours and talk to them about it. Writing a letter may seem too formal Maybe give your neighbours some of the prescribed diet food if they want to feed your cat. But you should make it clear that they must not feed your cat too much since it's overweight.

If you can't pay to have them checked out then you should not have them. This is not a vet website - it is a site filled with moronic strangers who don't know jack (with a few exceptions) guessing at a diagnosis. Call a vet and ask him. Phone calls are generally free. If you can't afford to treat them, then call animal control and have them euthanized and don't get another animal until you can properly care for it.

The cats need a vet,and you and your family doesn't need to own any animals.A cat is a cat, whether it lives in a barn ,a shack,a house or a castle. All animals deserve proper care.Letting them suffer and die is cruel. Please ask your parents to take the sick cats to the vet,and please have your dog spayed.
