I recently got out of a real bad relationship but I still feel like I am not single and can't bring myself to talk to new girls. How can I stop thinking about my ex and meet new people?

first of all don't dwell on the past you are out of the relationship but you must still feel something for this person if you can't move on. You need to try to move on for yourself as well as your future relationship's. When you meet new people don't compare them to past relationships you will be doom from the start. BE YOURSELF AND OTHERS WILL COME TO YOU.

actually you can't really forget bout that person until you try or make the effort to date other people..it is hard trust me..i have gone through it.. But it can be done..
for example i was devastated after my gf broke up with me..but then i began dating this very sweet girl for a while and we are still dating..(i really like her) so i don't really think about my ex anymore.. It is all a matter of giving yourself the confidence to move on and to say " you are way better than that" to dwell on someone that does not want you anymore.

Well, who broke up with who? Give yourself time, you will only forget your ex when a new love interest comes along, for now you have to preoccupy your thoughts with something possitive and fruitful. And if its such a bad relationship, you are most likely suffering from some form of trauma, due to the abuse whether its verbal or physical and since you got so used to that, you are looking for it, thinking its the only way to get acknowlegement. Get some help.

It takes time and everyone is different. After a particularly bad break-up, everyone needs some down time and some alone time. Not to get over the other person necessarily but to get "stable" again and figure out what it is that you want. Being single doesn't mean hitting the dating scene and going out every night...sometimes it means learning how to be alone and being okay with that. Just wait, you'll start checkin' out the opposite sex again soon.

Try to keep yourself occupied. Build a solid social life with some buddies & go out & relax a little.
