many times parents favor the opposite sex.... for example, u would be the "daddy's girl", and ur brother would be "mama's boy"... and most mother's are more lenient with their sons than daughters..it sucks, but it's a double standard: cuz girls are supposed to be Nice and Sweet and Pretty and Polite, boys are supposed to be Smart, Strong, Confident, Athletic, etc.... and so if he was rude, she may overlook it cuz she likes that he is "taking charge" (which i believe is BAD parenting... everyone should learn Manners; being rude does NOT mean u are manly!).
anyways, long story short... u are going to be treated differently.. and it sucks, but there's not much u can DO, except forcus on ur own life. stop being rude to ur parents, try to be a good daughter, friend, student, etc.... at home, yeah u live under their rules, but at school and w/ ur friends feel free to Develop urself into a Smart, Confident, Happy, Positive and Healthy girl! :) that way, u can look back and say u did it on ur own, instead of worrying that ur parents are messed up or whatever...
good luck, and try not to get upset. ur parents overall want the best for u.. it's possible u are the "smarter" one in school too, and so they want u to work harder, and let him skate by...?
take care~

Well, your brother is kind of an adult now, so of course he can say rude things and not get in trouble. What will your mom do, ground him? Yeah right, he's in college now, like that's going to work. But since you live in the same house you have to follow by your mom's rules. Maybe you should sit down and have a talk with mom and tell her what is up, that you don't get why she is treating you differently. Maybe, deep down she really misses your brother and realizes he is growing up and there is nothing she can do about it. Just hang in there.

My mom does the same thing with my brother. Did your brother grow up without a father? I think that 's the reason my mom smothers my brother so much. I just let it roll of my back . I know it can be hurtful sometimes but your grown up now. I'm sure that you have people that can give you the attention you need.

dont worry i kno how u feel..theres two things u could do. 1st thing is to ignore it and just try to spend time with ur mom, make the first move for spending more time together.2nd is to just tell her how u feel and she will understand.
