Nails were historically almost never used by romans. The iron was too hard to work, meaning nails were extremely costly at the time. Most criminals were in fact TIED to the tau-cross and left to asphyxiate.

Ahh... a Cynic that didn't bother doing his research... I love it.
The traditional idea of Jesus being nailed through the hands and feet and hung from an upright "T" shaped cross is fundamentaly flawed. There are multiple theories, most of which are based in historical fact, that help to clear this up.
The important one to remember though is this: Jesus most likely was nailed through the forearm. The amount of weight that can be supported by this has been tested and proven many times, as the structure of the forearm can support the hanging in this way very easily actually. Do keep in mind also though, that more than likely Jesus would have been starving and dehydrated, and probably be lean to begin with. At an average height of roughly 5' 6" (during that time, and in that region), that puts him at a weight range of likely 120-140 lbs when you take into account his state of health after everything.
The nails used would have been about 3/4" thick solid iron spikes, and could easily support the weight combined with the use of his forearms.
I hate that I know stuff like this, hehe.

Spiritual nails that held his spiritual feet so he could not spiritually walk. He was nailed to the "cross" of crossing over to the flesh. The "crossing" of spiritual to physical. That is when he became flesh. Crossed over from the free spiritual world to the world of physical. Nailed to the "cross". That is one interpretation of what the cross means. That is why the Bible said Christ is dead in us.
Ephesian 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
1Corinthian 15:13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen
1Corinthian 15:22 & 45 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit
Adam in Genesis was the first Christ (that Died)... Jesus of the New Testament represents the first and second Adam.
That is the secret of how the death really saves us. He died spiritually so that the pieces of his body might go into each of us. we only have to resurrect him in us. That is the only way the stroy makes sense. What sense does a physical death make? none. But a spiritual death makes all the sense. That is the only way he is part of us. Death in the flesh.
2Corinthian 5:16
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
We have to get the story the physical way, but once you understand the spiritual meaning, you no longer know him by the flesh.

Actually, there is a lot of debate over whether Jesus actually existed at all.
If he did and he was crucified it would be likely to be big iron nails.
After all of the wars, torture, persecution, murder and suffering caused by christianity (and other religions), I hope it was blunt rusty nails.

they used both types, toenails and fingernails.
Actually like JP says the Romans did not use nails to crucify and they did not use the T shaped crosseither. The used the trepalium. The X shaped cross made by setting up the pales(big stakes) used to form the palisade around their militay camps. It was common for them to tie the captured enemy after battle to these and letr them die slow painful death in view of their friends. It was the standard method of the army for executing multitudes of criminals and especially rebels.

I'm not sure. They must have been big, well made ones to support that weight. But, the type of nails doesn't matter. It is the reason behind the nails...

Wrought iron nails, fashioned specifically for Crucifixion were used. You can get them made by anyone who is a blacksmith, as artistic blacksmithing is a pretty common hobby now a days.

First thing, I find that comment very offensive.
Secondly, he was not crucified.
“And because of their saying (in boast), ‘We killed Messiah ‘Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allaah,’ — but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it appeared so to them the resemblance of ‘Eesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man)], and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. ‘Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]

“we are strolling by utilising faith, not by utilising sight.”—2 Cor. 5:7. besides the undeniable fact that, at no time ought to everybody look upon such issues simply by fact the Fish ,Crosses, pictures with reverence, as though they have been a seen sign of Christianity. (Acts 13:29) while, now, that they had achieved all the failings written approximately him, they took him down from the stake and laid him in a memorial tomb. (Acts 5:30) The God of our forefathers raised up Jesus, whom YOU slew, putting him upon a stake. (a million Peter 2:24) He himself bore our sins in his own physique upon the stake, only so we ought to be performed with sins and stay to righteousness.
