The amount times 0.65. This gives you what is left after subtracting the 35%. If you want to know how much 35% is, you take the amount times 0.35.

Times it by 0.65 (or times by 35, divide by 100 and take that away from the original number).
On some calculators, you can times it by 65 and press the % button (often 2nd function/shift etc. needs to be pressed).

To get the final price of the item multiply the total cost by (1-discount).
So, for a $10 item you multiply
10 * .65 = $6.50 final price
To find out how much you saved multiply by the discount.
10 * .35 = $3.50 savings
