Is he in the business of doing God's bidding?

2006-11-20 09:06:57 · 11 answers · asked by Bad Liberal 7 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

If Satan is burning in the lake of fire too how come he has so much power in the world? How did he have the time to make Ted buy meth, for instance? How did he make Mel say all those bad things? It's very confusing!

Oh, and if God is doing all this punishing all of a sudden, does that mean he's given up with the whole "infinite mercy" thing? Obviously he still has some mercy, but if he's reserving everlasting suffering for child murderers and people who cuss alike, there have to be limits short of infinity. Huh?

he is in the same position as every other human being who is going to hell but he will enslave you because he feels like it

For a minute, picture Hell as the complete absence of God, and of all He created (even fire is too warm a thought!)

Now picture that through acting on sin, you've chosen to push yourself away from God. If you keep it up, you will choose an eternity away from God. This is nothing God did, it's something you chose. To force you to love Him isn't love at all. You'd be a robot. It's not unmerciful of Him to give you free will, it's love.

An eternity in a frozen void, without God or His creation. For ever and ever.

God doesn't punish. God is gracious and lets people who don't want to spend eternity with Him have their way (and I expect that's what some of you would prefer, yes?).

Satan doesn't punish, either. He enjoys making human beings miserable and is only able to do so so much more in hell because it is the only place where God is not. Only God's presence keeps our lives as we know it from being a living hell.

Satan wouldn't punish them in hell. Hell was MADE for the Devil and his demons. Satan does not run the place, Bad Liberal. God made it for Satan and will throw Satan into it with all the demons and everyone else who died without Christ in the end.
EDIT:
Bad Liberal, Satan is not yet in the lake of fire. He WILL be in the lake of fire. The book of Job says that he walks the earth restlessly. And, no one made those people do anything. They chose to do bad. Satan can influence people, but they don't have to do his bidding.
EDIT 2:
Hell is FOREVER. Hope you're not worried, my Atheist friend.

Hmmm. I suppose it's actually god doing the punishing... Satan is just being punished along with them ( according to Christian Mythology)

Because he is the father of lies: And he deceives many. And to those who are against God it says:

John 8:44
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

If you look in the Bible you would see that Satan does not punish those denied a place in heaven, he shares their fate! (see Rev 20:10,14,15)
