Yes, dogs are natural hunters. There are even certain breeds of dogs (rat terriers for instance) that are bred specifically to control rodent populations in areas such as horse barns.

My doberman / lab mix used to catch more mice than our barn cats!

In merry old England during the time of the infamous Jack the Ripper there were so many rats it was unbelievable. The dogs trained and untrained, just starving found hundreds of thousands of rats. For that reason they were called 'ratters'. Not cats.

yes it is although it depends on what sort of dog you have
Some dogs such as Jack Russell terriers and other little dogs luv to hunt rats and mice...
Others such as Australia cattle dogs (kelpie's) and the Blue and Red heeler will too
Anyway your dog is doing you a favour, it is their way of saying thank you
You feed your dog and so he or she will go and hunt for you and usually bring it in just like a cat does
It is nothing to worry about saves you lots of money instead of using poisons just let the dog take care of it

Fairly normal, yes. Especially if he's a terrier - terriers were bred especially for getting rid of vermin, so they love to go after anything small and fast.

My dog catches rats sometime also. It's in their nature to hunt. Especially if it is a hound dog.

My dog doesn't catch rats, he swallows them whole. So, compared to my dog, I'd say yours is completely normal.
