lady I take care of came home to her house open. Thinking that her house was broken into found out by neighbor that the police were called to her residence by the agency that I work for because she didn't answer her door. The police in this Illinois town had neighbor crawl through his crawlspace into her garage to open door in meantime, broke some expensive things she had boxed in her garage when getting in. Anyways, police entered her home finding out that she wasn't there. Then when leaving, neighbor asked if he should lock her house back up and they said no. She felt so violated and went to the town hall for the report to file a complaint and no report was filled out. This act was comitted by the Chief of police and is the one who didn't file the report. How can she get piece of mind about this.

I don't know why they wouldn't relock the door, but since the police received a call about her well being, they were in the right to enter on the premises of that fact alone.

Police officers are allowed to enter if they believe that there is an emergency, which in this case, they were told by an authoritave agency that she was not answering and that there was concern for her welfare.

I am sorry that this woman received damage and now feels less secure about this, but she will hopefully realize that the police were acting out of concern for her welfare and did not mean any harm. It is good that someone is looking out for her best interest; I think it shows that there are still people who care for others.

Sorry to hear about her damages, but at least she is alright.

im confused by your whole story, so basically a neighbor called police because they think someone broke into "the lady's" house, the went in, broke stuff, and left. So neighbor asked if they could lock the door for that nieghbor but police siad no. So shes goes to file a complaint and is still upset because she somehow was able to find out no report was filled out? I mean what did this neighbor lady do? sat at the police station and saw everything?
Literally your story doesnt make sense. If she filed a report, all she does is turn it in tot he reception and the reception puts it in a pile for detectives or whomever to read it and review it. Inless the officer recieved numerous amount of complaints then internal affairs might take a look into it but just because you filed a complaint doesnt mean the officer will get fired. Basically your complaint was heard but its not going to do anything to the officer because if they find it frivolous, they will treat it as garbage and most likely this story is pretty lame

Well, I have been a cop for over 24 years and I have entered a lot of homes to check on occupants (many times to find them dead). During many of these "forced entries" we damage doors or windows while getting in.

In my agency, a large city, we fill out paper work when we damage property and it is sent to our claims department. Now, your in a small town so maybe they don't have such requirements. And for them to damage household items is to me unacceptable.

I would say go to City Hall and set up a meeting with the City Manager or Mayor or what ever you have. If you don't get any satisfaction that way, have her hire a lawyer.

I would suggest she talk to the local police chief first. He may be able to calm her. Maybe not. I am sure they were only looking out for her well being. However should she get the run around, or snappy attitudes a final resort might be contacting the Local TV news. They love things like this.

Has she spoken with the Chief? If not, she needs to do that first. If she finds no resolution with him, I suggest she contact the State Police and ask some questions of them, I am pretty sure they could point her in the right direction.

The State's Attorney General office should be able to take a written complaint and investigate.
