This is very common for this age. He may also not be fully relieving his bladder when he goes. Tell him to push it all out. My son used to do that and that was the case. Be patient. He will outgrow this phase.

i would take him to the pediatrician and let them check it out.

also, does he go to daycare or preschool? have they noticed the behavior at school as well?

is this only at home?

does he carry a sippy cup around all day? or have a drink available to have whenever?

many children that are at home most of the time drink more than they need. try limiting the amount he drinks to meal times only. a small glass of water if he is thirsty but not a big juice cup.

and, is his urine dark colored or have a strong smell?

and, does he stay dry through the night or get up to pee?

My four year old just went through a stage like that. At first I thought he might have diebetes. He was always thirsty and had to go potty all the time. I was going to make an appt for him to get checked and all of a sudden it just stopped. So I think it was just a phase?? If it continues though I would make an appt.

Well, not exactly sure if normal, but my son had frequent urges. You may just need to control his liquid intakes and plan bathroom breaks. If you believe it is an issue, then take him to a urologist. They did a sonogram of my son's bladder and they could not find anything except possible issue of him not clearing his bladder at urination. The only thing they suggested was to give him a medicine to clear his bowels to releive pressure on his bladder. We decided just to put up with the frequent urinations.

My daughter did that when she was first toilet trained, she just really liked the toilet! She still does that when there is a "new" toilet, public or someones house.

He might have an infection. Is he still in diapers? Have it checked out by the doctor immediately. You do want to check it after the infection is already in his kidneys.
