All dogs are generally put under for veterinary dental work- it reduces stress and risk of injury to both human and animal.

Absolutely. I used to clean dog's teeth, and trust me, it would be impossible to do it without unless you have an exceptionally good dog! As long as your dog is not a senior, the risks should be pretty minimal and it will benefit the dog tremendously. Bad teeth can actually lead to death in extreme cases, so having their teeth cleaned once in awhile is good.

My cats were always but under sedation when they had their teeth cleaned, so I am saying yes. They do a very intensive cleaning just like they do with humans, and many (most) pets would not allow that to happen while they were awake.

Typically, yes. If you are concerned about safety, there are many different drugs and methods that can be used. The cost will vary, but if you express your concern your vet should be willing to work with you, and explain the choices which will range from sedation to general anesthesia.

yes, because it reduces stress on the animal, and also is painless for them if they have to have teeth pulled. plus, it's easier for a vet to work on an animal that's soundly sleeping as opposed to an animal that's awake and moving around.

depends on the dogs temper about it. the vet should not risk getting hurt by a dog who is upset by what is happening

My small cairn has to be sedated for any grooming. He has a tendency to bite and snap. Ask your vet or groomer what their policy is.
