A Charity that I support is the American Cancer Society. They are involved in researching a cure for cancer as well as helping support those that are currently fighting the disease.
Here is the address if you want to take a look around. If you click on the contacts us link @ the top of the page, you can get a phone number to talk to somebody directly. They should be able to inform you on how to donate in someone else's name.

Sometimes people donate to charities in a person's name and it happens to be a charity that the person doesn't really care about. Like (and i know this is your mom so it wouldn't apply) someone giving a cheque to "ProLife" in the name of a woman who had a secret abortion years before. The best thing to do is to tell your mother that you love her and that you want to start contributing to your community. ASK HER which charity is her favorite and tell her that you are sending a donation as her gift! When you send the money order (NEVER CASH!!), you simply attach a note and say that the donation is a gift and the receipt should be made to: Mrs.wonderful mom, 123 main street ., etc...."

yes, you put it in your MOM's name, how sweet of you to do this! And at your age! I hope that the LORD blesses you for your thoughtfulness:]]] and the Cancer society is a great place to give, but if you want to truly help (and a small donation would truly help) there is an organization in Bend, Oregon called Venture Forward. It is for at risk teens, they can come and get a wonderful experience at camp and learn some VERY important life skills and get back what is important in this life Joy! you can go to Venture Forward.Org and learn more. This camp is so so so beautiful and would normally cost teens families $4000 to $5,000. There for poor or middle class teens' families could not afford it, but with your small donation a kid who truly needs to be there can go and not have to worry about the expense! Thank you for having such a beautiful heart! we need more people like you, and Iam sure you will find the right place to give!

Get a name off an angel tree (I think any wal-mart or large dept store has a tree with names on it). You can but a gift for a child in her name. Then she will know a specific child had a better christmas. Any larger organization should be safe. Another great idea is to buy a goat or something for a family in another country. http://www.heifer.org/ has a catalog of what you can buy.

Look up on the web for Project Linus. www.projectlinus.org will list all the local chapters and who to contact. Linus provides home made blankets for children in need. The chapter coordinator can help you with ideas on how to help with their chapter.

Go to www.charitynavigator.com - they rate/review charities, so you should be able to find a good one there.
