Nibble on a piece of hard cheese. The alkali will help to neutralise the heartburn, and it has the advantage over milk of not curdling or making your stomach awash, as it takes a while to break down. If you have any, Milk of Magnesia is always good for heartburn too.

Milk etc won't help as heart burn is stomach acid working it's way back up the gullet. Try extra strong mints which always worked for me when I suffered with heart burn whilst pregnant.

Several years ago I had this same problem & went to the doc. He looked at my throat with a light to see what was going on & the diagnosis was acid reflux.
This can be a dangerous situation if not treated because the acid build-up can cause esophegal burning.
He put me on Nexium and it manages my problem.
My advice would be to consult a gastrointerologist and let him/her treat you.
Many of the suggestions I've read in your post would only aggrevate your symptoms.
Hope this helps.
Good luck to you!

looking out for what to eat and what not to mainly. Avoid any hot and spicy foods, even garlic and onions. Avoid coffee. Take alot of milk as it often neutralises the acid in the stomach. You may have a virus in your stomach causing it or you may have some inflammation. If it has been going on for more than a month consult your doc. rennies, remegel, all usually work well. good luck.

Why are all these people advising milk (acid!) and mustard. These things aggravate the problem. As to the tablets, try Asilone, not just when it happens but 3 or 4 a day for a few days. If you have a hiatus hernia ( see your doctor?) eat little & often.

The best cure I've heard of for chronic heartburn (a symptom), is called " The Three Pack", and is available by prescription in Canada.

I had horrible heart burn or acid reflux for years.

Then I developed a yeast allergy and had to stop eating bread.

THE HEART BURN IS ALL GONE.

I can eat biscuits or muffins and wheat products made without yeast.

Try this and see if it will help you.

Seriously though, any antacid will do even common the garden chalk , gaviscon , milk of magnesia uyou can buy in most shops or ask your local chemist or doctor for advice. It may feel like heartburn but from what you say there is a very slight possiblity of it being someting else.

The best thing to do is try to figure out what foods cause you to have heartburn and then avoid those foods. However, it can also be a symptom of something more serious. If you have heartburn more than occassionally, you should contact your doctor to discuss possible causes and a remedy...Persistent untreated heartburn can lead to serious health issues...go get checked. Good luck

I have a long cold drink of milk, that cools it down. And the i have extra strong mints. I don't go buying expensive remedies, when extra strong mints do just as good.
