I have studied divination and fortune telling for quite awhile. I am curious whether a formal certificate is neccessary in order to do it for others beside friends or family like online. Is proof neccessary?

I'm not aware of the need for any certification. However, I've read tarot cards for years and I still took a tarot class last year and learned a lot about it, so I'd recommend taking classes just to benefit from the knowledge of people who have been doing it for a longer period of time. They can also advise you on how best to start up your own reading business, if you'd like to do so.

Bright blessings!

You need to look up your state laws for that. Some states won't even allow it, others demand you get a license in order to do it. Where I am from, you have to have a business license as well as a license to perform "Fortune Telling" for potential customers. Personally I don't care for the term Fortune Telling, it reminds me of the cracks on TV.

you do not need to have any qualifications .. however
in the Uk we have guidelines that have to be met if you wish to read publically and charge for a service ( for the protection of the public )
I am unsure if there are such legal requirements elsewhere
but when doing for friends and family ... go ahead and enjoy ...
they are great for practice and development
i wish you well xx

Nope. There are formal groups you can register with, but it's not at all necessary.
