NO! Normally shortening has been processed so that it has the dreaded trans fatty acids, which are terrible for your cholesterol levels. Shortening is a white semi solid substance at room temperature. Oil, well, it's oil. you know olive oil, corn oil, etc.

This probably isn't the best answer, but they are kind of the same. Vegetable oil is a liquid and shortening is a solid. I think that shortening is an animal fat. It can be cooked into a liquid to be used as oil though. And they pretty much serve the same purpose. Hope that was a little helpful.

Well if the recipe calls for melted shortning it will substitute. But if it is for baking (like for a pie crust) they are not the same. they have the same ingredienst just different uses, though the shortening can be melted and used as the oil.
The shortning can be whipped in some recipes but the oil cannot.

No. When I was growing up my mom used shortening. you need to read the labels. There are different kinds, there is vegetable shortening but also some with animal fat. Be-careful and always read the ingredients.

Not really.

It depends on what you are making, but there is a big difference in the physical properties of shortening (margarine or crisco) versus liquid oil.

Shortening is usually hydrogenated which makes it like butter, lard, or Crisco. It is used in baking. Vegetable oils are a liquid.

In the superstore, fruits are usually picked out far too soon. Some are rocks, many are bitter. Some of the fruit and vegetables are typical right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
