Hi Patti...when kitty's breath is a bit off it could be due to oral problems such as an infected tooth. It may be a kitty needs to have the teeth cleaned and checked for a dental decay.

First, cats do NOT eat their own poop. That is prevalent in neurotic dogs. Cats do NOT have bad breath if they eat healthy, well-balanced DRY cat food, have access to lots of water by their dish on a continuous basis. If they eat canned fish-based food, then all bets are off! YOU try blending up a cup of sardines and oil, and see how lovely YOUR breath is!! If your cats eat a lot of canned fish-based food, then buy some dry kitty-candy that is for their teeth. "Greenies" is the BEST - after kitty eats, give her/him 3 or 4 "greenies" and the breath will be as fresh as if they gargled with mouthwash!

It's probably rotten teeth or an abcess. Make a dental appointment with your vet to have their teeth cleaned. It can cause serious health problems later in their lives, like chronic kidney failure. The good news is that once the teeth are clean you can give your cat a few "Greenies" for a snack twice a day. It WILL help keep teeth clean and it is not bad for them if you don't give them too many.

That's sure to be a sign of some problem, likely dental. My Poppy will sometimes lick my hand, and I SWEAR it smells like flowers! That surprised me because my last cat's breath was atrocious. But she was much older.

may be this style of nutrients/ kibbles. may be early kidney affliction OR undesirable teeth. may be that there isnt clean water placed out on a daily foundation for kitty drink. if its for all time pungent, best to get right into a vet with a purpose to do a mouth exam. there's a spread of enzyme teeth paste that you dont favor to brush the cat mouth *it really is merciless' they purely lick the paste up and it extremely works contained in the mouth.

Our cat had bad breath, so we took him to the vet. Turns out he had new teeth coming in and the baby teeth were stuck to the new teeth. (capped) She took some off, but the rest came off in time.
My daughter brushes his teeth about once a week.

It really shouldn't smell too bad. Check to make sure that the cat doesn't have tooth decay or gum problems. It could also be a sign of illness. Either way, see your vet.

You may not like it, depending on what you feed them, But I for one LOVE the kittie breath smell. Its just who they are, I probably don't like your cats breath, but I love mine. Especially tanks. ITs so baby still. AHHH I just love my cats so much!
