My 8 yr old Lab ate a toy again. We took her to the vet and he says there's no obstruction, but that her insides are a little agrivated.
Her intestines are full of gas, and she isn't able to poop.
Any ideas as to what I can feed her to soothe her poor insides and ger her back to normal?
Tnx

The vet gave me some low-residue dry, and wet food to give her, but they didn't give me enough and I ran out of the wet.

They took x-rays, and there was no obstruction, and the intestines looked fine. They were just full of gas.

She started pooping the day after we brought her back from the vet's, but then she had a re-lapse, and got bloated again.
Any ideas what I could give her to get rid of the gas, and help her poor insides?
tnx

The vet should have given you an idea of what she should eat for the next few days.

Give them a call and ask them what they recommend as a bland diet. Usually it's boiled chopped meat or cottage cheese and boiled white rice. They might not want her to have that because you said she hasn't had a b.m. and rice can be binding.

You can ask them if they suggest Pepto to help ease the gas.

I was told to give my dog Pepto Bismol (by my vet) when he had GI problems (This was 8 years ago). If your vet didn't recommend it initially though I would double check with him/her first.

You can brown some hamburger meat and mix it with white rice (cooked of course) drain the fat from the hamburger meat first and be sure to let it cool prior to serving. Also, give only a little at a time. This is a wonderful treat for your dog (if she feels like eating) and she just might scarf it down. Be ready for a few more visits to the latrine also as a change in diet will surely change bowel movement regularity.

There're also many different types of Lamb and Rice dog food that are gentle on the tummy.

Good luck, hope your dog feels better!

Think soothing and bland. If possible, try to get her to drink as much water as possible. Has she passed the toy yet? Or is it in her system, b/c if it is still inside, than expect this no poop thing to continue until she has pooped the toy. Things should get better afterward.
But if she has pooped the toy, than contact your vet b/c even though these answers are kind and willing, they don't take word over a doctors. Good luck with your doggy and keep those toys out of reach!! :D

How long ago did your dog eat the toy? If it is longer then 2 days ago call your vet back to prescribe some thing to get the bowl moving.
If he is not concerned about it contact a different vet.

When our black lab puppy was injured and didn't want to eat I'd cook some rice- wait for it to cool a little- chop up some lean lunch meat, mix it with the rice and feed it to her. She loved it. Eventually I mixed in some of her food and weened her off the rice pretty quick. It worked when she was teething too.

PUMPKIN!!!!! It's like exlax for dogs. As far as the gas and upset tummy go, I give mine pepto bismal. Be sure to give correct dosage for their weight. I buy the childrens tablets and cover them in peanut butter.

"Add canned pumpkin to every meal. The dosage can range from 1/8 tsp for a small dog to 1/2 tsp for a large dog, depending upon results. Start with 1/4 tsp for a medium and large dog, increasing the amount depending on stool results"

All these ways might have worked for these people, but people food is for people, dog food is for dogs. I know at times it's okay to give dogs people food, but what's best for them IS dog food. So before you try people food, I suggest you consult your vet. Just call and ask how you can help her along.
