My doctor told me I'm 1cm dilated, does that mean I will go into labor soon? This is my first baby so I'm curious. I would like the baby to be born this week!!!

I was at 2cm for 2 weeks with my second and 3 wks with my first. Its hard to tell when woman are gonna go into labor. It could be tomorrow or 2 more weeks. Just hang on and relax knowing that in no more than 2.5 weeks your gonna be a mother and set eyes on the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. Take Care and congrats!!!!

My wife was at a 1 for 3 weeks...... then the next day "I assume your goning once a week now" she went into labor... so if could be anyday now, it could be an hour for now.. right now your not in charge on when the baby is cooming the baby is.... if you go to the hospital they will just send you home unless your over 4 or 5cm then they keep you.. it also has to do with how much your cervix has thinned out?? so be patient it will probally be 40 weeks.... but it could be soon.. when you start to diolate faster it will go from 1 to 5 in not time... try walking alot it will help the baby drop. possibly speed up the process.... thats what I hear but I dont think it helped us as we had ours 2 days before the due date and she was at 1 for almost a month prior. and you have nothing to worry about as the doc will say the same it your baby isnt out at 42 weeks then they will do something

Sorry 1cm is not a lot. I stayed at two centimeters for about two and a half weeks before I went into active labor. But who knows everyone is different. Now that you have started to dilate you can start trying things like walking and having sex maybe that will jump start labor for you. Good Luck

No, I dilated to 2 cm by 37 weeks and 3 by 39 weeks and I STILL had to be induced 1 week after my due date! Since it's your first, your body starts processes early and slowly to ease the body into it. I doubt the baby comes this week...sorry! Good Luck though!

Im almost positive it wont be long there is only a week and a half left of your pregnancy. Congrats!, being 1cm dilated doesnt been much, on the day of my last apt with my doc I should of had two more week left in my pregnancy but I woke up that morning and my water had broke I got to the hospital 6cm dilated. So Im pretty sure you'll probably have it this week. and again CONGRATS!

Yes it means that labor is on the way. It may take a little while tho. I dont think this week is happining, but you never now. You can go from one CM to 5 in no time. You may want to try having sex or stimulating your nipples. (its siad that it makes you go into labor faster.) Good luck to you. Dont rush it enjoy it while you can. (I know thats hard to do when you cant get up and pee and alls you want is to hold your baby, but you really should enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy)

Try lots of walking to hurry things up. Full dilation is at 10 cm. Full term is 36 weeks so I hope it's soon for you, I know you must be tired. Long gestations don't hurt the baby though.

1 cm is very little. What's happening is that your cervix is starting to relax and open slightly, preparing to go into labour; I would guess your baby might arrive this week. OH, the joy!
