Information about the Croatian wine industry?

We spent a couple of weeks in Croatia in 2004, and, although the people are just wonderful, their wine is awful. We tried many, many varieties - home-made and bottled and their so-called "premium" wines and, honestly, they have a long way to go. Their table grapes are fine to eat after a meal but their wine varietals are really substandard.
