You need to be happy with yourself as a single person. This takes time to achieve and you can but only wait in the meantime, go out lots, try meeting new people, have lots of fun whenever possible. New hobbies, work hard, play hard and generally find things to occupy your mind so that you are not dwelling on what used to be!

its a long slow process. i split from my ex 2 months ago. i was devastated and was at the stage your at now. just functioning, dwelling constantly on the past and the what ifs? you got to keep busy, i know it probably doesnt feel like it at the moment. but each day gets a little easier until you realise you havent thought of them for the last ten minutes.

i dont know your circumstances, but if you dont have to have contact with them because of children, then you must break contact. maybe call in a few months when your adjusted to the reality that they are not with you anymore. anything that reminds you of them photos, clothes etc, get rid of it. if you cant throw it at least put it out of sight.

you need to keep busy, try to divert your attention to something else. time really is a great healer. im still hurting very much over my breakup, and i still think of her everyday, just not every hour of every day.

good luck

Its an old proverb but here goes "The best way to get over someone is to get under someone" I found that this only makes you feel cheap and regretful though. Perhaps time and maybe avoiding your ex for a while will get you through. Good luck x

You will! Refuse to dwell on:
1. Your loneliness
2. Thoughts about him

Start a new life:
1. Meet new friends
2. Get out of the house/apt and do new things

You can do it and before you know it, you'll be over him.

I call it the pet theory. When your pet dies people typically get a new one to help forget the pain. So try dating someone else who can make you excited about them and dim the though of your ex.
