Everyone has heard that Columbus sailed to America for gold, or to prove the earth was round or a few more reasons. Did you know that was only part of the reason? You see Columbus's first name was Christopher, which means Christ Bearer. He believed that his mission was to carry the gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth. But he couldn't get anyone to support his voyage, now, as a teenager and young man he had worked in a map shop and knew maps backwards and forward; and at that time it was believed that the earth was flat. So after going to multiple king's and asking for finance to sail to prove the earth was round and to get riches from india he was rejected multiple times. His last hope was the King of Spain and they said yes! So Columbus set sail, and after a while the greed of gold ate him up and he left his life mission work, but not after discovering America

well.......In spite of i have studied very much at school about who discovered our continent. i havent ever heard that story. Which are ur sources???
i dont agree with some of the things you said.
1st.... real name of columbos wasnt christofher ( in english) . As you know he was from genoa (Italy) and his name in his lang was CRISTOBAL, as in spanish. Its meaning is Christ. He didnt travel for carrying the gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth. He didnt know that he'll arrive to a new place. He was looking for a shorter way to arrive to India, to bring spices, that's why he went to the west after left Puerto de Palos in Spain.
It is correct that he made maps being young, but not because worked in a map shop, but he was a sailor before his 20's and learn how to draw the maps.
The greed of gold didnt ate him at all. He travelled 3 times to the land we now call America, but never got nothing more than the salary that the Queen Of Castilla (Isabel la Católica) promised to him, although the grade of Almirant.
Your story, is very different from the ones in my history books.
I really should like to know which your sources are. Thank you

Columbus did not bypass to the Americas with the point of exploiting the natives, a minimum of the 1st time. On his first trip, he had no concept the Americas existed. specific, different Europeans suspected that the earth exchange into around, yet they, like Columbus, had no concept how vast it exchange into. no person knew that, quite of one vast ocean, there have been 2 vast oceans separated by utilising an entire large unknown land mass. As for the tea concept, that's a fascinating one. Hadn't heard it positioned quite that way earlier. ought to be.

Actually he was interested in India of the East because there were rumors of more gold and things of historical value to bring back. And it was made obvious by the fact that he mistook the natives of Mayan descent as the Indians of the East sans the name American Indians we know today.

how do you discover something that's already been discovered. people were here before he got here. the only reason he ended up here is because he was a drunk and thought he was in India. and where are the "Indians" (I like to call them Native Americans for lack of a better name) thanks to this great and wonderful Christian. They get treated worse than black people ( I am black). They still have tribes here in NC that are trying to get recognition from the federal government even though we have a city and a county named after them.

None of the above: They were looking for a shorter route to India.
Reason was the spice trade with India. Not gold.

He left to go to India. Did not get there. Never landed in North America. Read your history again.

What a load of crap. No, it was for money and power. Nothing more. And discovering America was an accident. You need to go back to the history books and start studying the facts, not what religion wants you to believe.

You need to do a little home work on your Christ Bearer. One of the things that he brought, and it is documented, was where those who followed him, to make all the heathens turn to their god, gathered all the men of the villages into the pig stall, raped and killed the women and put their children on spits roasting them over the fire until the men agreed to accept this new god of love and understanding.

yah, he thought he landed in india at first, he never meant to discover america, his intention was to go to india for spices and what not. however, many in that day thought it was their job to push their beliefs on others. and his name wasnt any part of a reason. im sure he wasnt the only christopher in his day.
