There could be a couple of different things going on. First, he just may be taking sometime to get comfortable in his new home. Make sure he has good light, not direct sun, good food and isnt being bothered by other pets or small children.
Secondly, he may be molting. Canaries lose all of their feathers every year. It takes a lot of energy and male canaries stop singing during that time. If you notice any feathers laying around that is what is going on.
Just some general suggestions: Make sure he has an excellent diet. This would include fresh seed, dark greens like kale or brocolli, whole wheat or corn bread, hard boiled egg including the shell and other vegetables.
If you get a second bird dont put them together. They will fight. The sound of other canaries singing might cause him to sing in competition, but its not a friendly thing. They are vieing for a female. They dont even like to be in the same cage as a female outside of breeding season. They are not social birds. Playing music can be very helpful, especially flute music.

Perhaps your canary isn't entirly happy. Check some bird-care books to make sure you are looking after him correctly. Make sure you spend time with him. Talk to him and maybe play some soft music in the background. Hopefully he'll sing for you again!

Perhaps you should play music or get a companion for your canary. They usually sing when the music plays, and they " sing" duets. Your canary may be lonely!
