Tail first for support when pulling the bird out as you should have it on the rack that comes with the fryer.
Hint, make sure you do not put in too much oil, because once you drop in the bird it can spill boiling oil, easy to catch fire with the burner underneath it and all.

I don't know but a word of advice! Before you dunk turkey in hot oil, fill the pot with water and mark where the oil will raise to. You don't want to guess how high. If the oil overflows you have a big problem on your hands. Good Luck with that!

if you put the bird in head first the oil will fill up the inside of the bird and make it cook faster

Well the turkey's been in the freezer for a while so you should probably stick him in the microwave for a little while. That should make whichever end you stick in first rather irrelevent, don't you think? =)

It depends if you feel safer dealing with the possibility of getting pecked or scratched in your softer parts. Those claws are pretty nasty, so probably the head...

whichever side has the big hole in it goes on top, that way the oil gets inside the turkey also
