No, the Prophet did not marry 40 wives. He had nine wives and later were reduced to 4 after a command came in the Quran that 4 was the limit for those who can be fair, if not just one wife. Yes, his youngest wife was Aisha, and some reports imply she was 9 at the time but her age is a subject of debate amongst some Muslims. Many suggest she was older than that.

Now, I don't understand why Mohammed's marriages are singled out when 1400 yrs ago this practice (polygamy and young marriage) was very common and accepted. You will not find any negative criticism even amongst his enemies of his time on this subject at all because he was very modest compared to them and the norms of society he lived in. Even Aisha had a suiter before Mohammed but things didn't work as planned, proof it was not uncommon. Mohammed's first marriage that is always overlooked was when he was 25 and his wife (a widow) was 15 yrs older than him. He had all his children from her and her death was one of the saddest moments of his life as she was the dearest person to him.

He remarried (10 yrs later after his wife's death) for the sake of spreading Islam .All his wives after that were a witness to the fact that no wife of his was more dear to him than his first wife (khadija).

As for Aisha she was the only virgin wife he had as the rest were either divorced, widows, older than him, had kids, ... We Muslims do not view Aisha as the (9 year old) she was young but you would have never guessed that as she was articulate, smart, and very mature, she became the first female scholar in Islam and contributed to the wealth of knowledge we know today in Islam for her contribution in narrating a huge collection of the hadith. She died in her early 50's and use to lecture men and women about Islam after Mohammed's death..she even waged a war in her lifetime.

Also, if you take a look at the bible, you'll get to know that Prophet David, Jacob, Moses, and Solomon who was said to have hundreds(1 Kings 11:3) , polygamy was common amongst messengers of God. Even when Islam allows up to 4 wives less than 1% in the Islamic world actually practice it, and majority are in monogamous marriages.

Muhammad did not have 40 wives. He had 9. His only really significant one was with Khadijah, his first wife. He was married to her for 20-some years. She died, and only then did he remarry. And this was in a culture where the number of wives was a symbol of status. He was monogamous until then. Maybe almost celibate considering she was 23 years older than him.

And yes, Aisha was 9 when they were married. But marriage in Medieval Arabia was not the same as marriage here and now. This marriage was for the purposes of uniting two tribes and this was frequent practice back then. Most likely they didn't have sex for quite a while after they were married. Perhaps not at all; Muhammad was in his 50's. Most likely Aisha was more like a daughter or granddaughter to him.

Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) had 9 wives and according to reliable sources the youngest Aisha(pbuh) was nearly 9-12 years old. In Islam every girl can get married at puberty age. In this forum there are too many disrespectful people who are insulting Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) and i just wanna say them, we will meet all of you on the day of judgement! Remember your words when you come face to face with the truth!

It is preposterous to even think about. Can you believe that Islam considers this as a great achievement of their prophet. There are few in this forum who even defend that.

Lets not forget that the same prophet also had multiple wives prior to his ultimate feat of marrying a child. But muslims say that he married for political reasons. So do you think marrying every one from all the political parties will make one a strong leader and settle all the problems. I think the idea is pathetic. It sounds like women were commodities who were used for the the prophet's evil purposes.

Ah! Humanity. What have we done to you. How can we believe in wicked prophets who haven't set us good examples and lead a virtuous life.

possibly it relatively is no longer possibly the questions you ask yet their theory of the variety you're asking the questions. i actually don't comprehend what question you're speaking approximately so i will't remark on it yet i'm specific you're nicely conscious that on the internet human beings placed inflection into different peoples words in places the author did no longer. we many times study something in a tone that became no longer what the author meant in any respect. as quickly as we try this each and every so often we make the words out to be aggressive or inflammatory. So possibly this individual thinks you're passive aggressive, for this reason the 'inflicting fitnah' remark.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) married 9 wives (may Allah be pleased with them) not all in the same time and the youngest was Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) who was between the age of 9 and 12 years old. the scholars don't have an accurate account to know precisely how old she was.

peace.

The prophet of Islam married Aisha when she was only six years old. He waited until she was the ripe old age of nine before consummating the marriage.

Muslims don't have a problem with this.

Aisha was the only virgin wife of Muhammad. [76] Watt states that she 'cannot have been more than ten years old when the marriage was consummated, while Spellberg writes that Aisha's youth might have been deliberately emphasized by scholars during the Abbasid caliphate to reject Shi'a political claims for the descendants of Ali ibn Abi Talib.[82]
