Firstly, I'd like to agree with everything Quack Doc just said. Most of the anti-Atkins comments here are clearly being written by people whose only understanding of Atkins has come from disreputable tabloids.

Dr. Atkins didn't develop a 'diet'. He suggested a totally different way of eating that was designed for life. Obviously, people who use the Atkins plan as a 'diet' and then revert to their previous bad eating habits are likely to regain the weight they lose but that's true of any temporary diet. No matter what method you use to lose weight, if you don't change your underlying problem with food then you aren't going to change yourself permanently.
The good news about the Atkins way of eating is that once you have accepted that you'll eat low carb FOREVER, then you are guaranteed to spend the remainder of your life lean and healthy.
I've been eating low-carb for over five years now. And despite the scare-mongerers, my fitness level is higher now than it was 20 years ago. My cholesteral level is so low it barely registers on my doctor's chart. And I wear size 8 clothes.
And, to answer your actual question, I eat LOTS of tuna!!

The most natural and healthy diet for humans is an omnivorous diet, and not a plant based diet, or a meat-based diet per se. The Paleo Diet can be very widely varied and omnivorous for the most part, but the most important thing is that it’s unprocessed, and avoids the worst foods that agriculture brought mankind… refined inflammatory vegetable oils, refined grains (some are worse than others), and sugar! As you can see, the benefits of adopting a Paleo way of eating can be incredible! I’ve been eating 95% Paleo for the last 5-6 years and I’ve never felt better. I have dozens of friends that have adopted a more Paleo way of eating too, and have seen all sorts of health problems disappear, including eliminating acne and other skin problems, digestion problems, improving brain clarity, and of course, losing a lot of body fat!

Yes, Tuna is allowed on the Atkins diet. Tuna is actually very good for you, but is not recommended that you eat it every day, because of mercury levels, etc.

I like to put the tuna on a plate and melt some cheddar cheese over it in the microwave.

Another thing that is good is if you heat a half of a tomato with mozzerella cheese on it, and then slice it up and eat that with your tuna.

You can also make tuna wraps with lettuce leaves and put other veggies in there. You can also have a little mayo if you want. I put pickles and mayo in my tuna.

Cats who regularly eat tuna can develop a vitamin B1 deficiency, which results in neurological symptoms like dilated eyes, loss of equilibrium, seizures and death if this vitamin is not replaced. Since he only received it as an occasional treat, he'll be fine because the vitamin was replaced in his regular diet. The human tuna like Starkist or Chicken of the Sea contains the enzyme that creates the deficiency. If you still want to give him a treat once in a while, just keep a few cans of Friskies handy.

Fish are high on protein, so you can eat tuna as well as any other fish. If you follow the atkins diet, make sure you get enough fibre in your diet in fruit and vegetables!

Hi Hun, You can eat any kind of protein food on the Atkins diet- that includes meat, fish, eggs. However, it really isn't a good idea to cut out all carbs! Please don't do this..bad idea! The key to healthy eating is balance so eat a bit of protein, a few complex carohydrates, plenty of fruit and veg and your laughing!

70% of people did not gain weight from atikins, (where is your source and if you have one, see who paid for the study (govt, general mills, etc, all of which produce or support the poison they call food)) if they did, it is because they kept pounding simple carbs and sugar. Not because of the diet. It was because they did not follow the diet and cheated.

Tuna is great for Atkins and Atkins is a good diet. It got bad press because it was costing the poison food Manufactures a lot of money. Plus, our knee jerk reaction society still belives that sugar is good for you and all fats are bad.

Go with the atkins or go with another low carb diet. But get rid of sugars, pop, fast food, processed foods, and simple carbs.

Edit (I hate people sometimes. Atkins did not die from his own diet. He fell on ice and hit his head. They had him pumped full of meds, he was unconcious and bloated due to back up in his circulatory system right before he died. NOT FROM THE DIET.

Also, Atkins is not a no-carb diet as the dancer would have you believe, Atkins is a low carb with no carbs in the beginning. Only 2 weeks on the inductuion or untill you go into Ketosis, then you start adding back complex carbs, like leafy green veggies, and whole grains with lots of fiber. Not the sugar loaf of bread that passes for food. Get educated on a subject before you answer with generalities.

Tuna mixed with BBQ sauce sounds gross, but warm it up and yummmy.)

Good luck, anyone who will tell you it is a bad diet, tell them to go follow the food pyramid and bet them that they will get type 2 diabetes and you won't.
