I love eating crisps, but need to loose some weight! I have recently discovered flavoured rice cakes and think they are scrummy!! But are they a good alternative to crisps?? I can see that they are lower in fat, but are they too good to be true??

Rice cakes have a very high GI index - it all depends on how you feel about what you put into your body. Both are highly processed foods so theoretically best avoided but we are all after a quick fix and as long as we eat healthily 80% of the time, we should be on the right track.

Crisps every time. rice cakes always taste a bit bland. Tortillas have hardly any fat, and come in a wide range of yummy flavours.....

Check the calories and fat on the label, that's the best way. Logic says rice cakes would be better because they aren't fried in oil.

We get own brand tortilla chips from Asda, about 20p for a big bag. Check out the low calorie count, and also low in fat.

If they work for you then thats all that counts! They're a great tasting alternative, which when dieting, is very hard to come across! Good luck with the diet.

They are a good alternative, but you may want to look into soy crisps. They are great too, and they give you all the health benefits of soy.

If you are eating the whole bag in one sitting, they won't help you much. But if you are eating a serving size, it is a great substitute instead of high-fat chips. Hopefully they will curb your cravings.

Rice cakes are low in fat because they're made of polystyrene!

Yuck. What's so wrong with a bit of saturated fat and salt? As long as you do plenty of exercise and drink lots of water, you can relax about it.
