It seems that they take their morality seriously, but are unwilling to confirm it through analysis. What is going on there?

In order to re-examine their morals, people would have to know why they believe what they do in the first place. Many individuals have adopted their morality from their environment (parents, culture, etc), and only give the "why" a casual thought. Critical thinking and reasoning are erroneously thought of as having no place in morality and religion. Culture and emotion rule.

Secondly, I agree with other answerers that such a re-examination may require an adjustment to one's life(permanently?). It's better to live in blissful ignorance, either out of selfishness if sacrifice is required, out of vanity because they may be leaving the norm, or at minimum out of laziness (because change takes work).

One can only honestly stand for their morals if they have been examined in the first place.

Excellent question!

Simple - people hate to admit they are wrong.

Morals are usually learned from childhood. Therefore, changing them would mean admitting that one has done something the wrong way all of his or her life. That is a heavy blow to the ego!

Also, people find comfort in routines. A change in morals can mean a change in routine. The human mind is simply uncomfortable with this change.

Then there is the "if it ain't broke dont fix it" philosophy. Why would someone change something that has fitted him or her for so many years?

I believe this is just human nature, and is not a conscious act of self righteousness.

Two-facedness?? We speak with our mouth but do not follow up with actions.
God's form of morality is seen on the outer man. Others will know what you stand for.
Of course, it is possible to look/dress Holy and be a sleaze. But sooner or later the proof show through. We all know "Christian girls" for example who "had to get married". That is not God's morality. O>K> guys don't chuckle cause if it wasn't for your sneaking behind the church hall

Philosophical question. . . .

It depends on whether the parties involved can agree on the definition of what morals are. . . there are categories of morals--personal, business, etc. Your business morals could be different from your personal morals.

Not the easiest quesion to answer.

I thoroughly question my morals every day.... I always ask myself if I am chosing to do/not do something or think (or not) one way or the other because it serves my interests or if it is truly the right thing to do. I think long and hard to get to these decisions.

I'm not sure who you are referring too in this question. I am always questioning my morals. I know that I am good in some ways and bad in others, it's life, we should always be re-examining our selves everyday.

there are morrays and morals
I think they get confused

I think morrays are the behaviour of a group
morals are whats right or wrong

morrays may be wrong but its hard for young people sometimes to be differnt and say no... not so easy for old people either

Well let me have it.

Where do I need to re-examine and I'll look at myself today. We only imporve by judging ourselves, not others.

If you see no flaws, lets go out for ribs sometime!

Well, when they're spoonfed this dogma since birth, they think its undeniable truth even against overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
