A little bit of neosporin (or any triple anti-biotic ointment) can help. I read it in a magazine and have found it to work...not like magic, but it helps it heal faster and reduces redness. If you want to cover it up with make-up, go with a green based concealer.

try green-tinted make-up/concealer made specifically to cut redness... available at cosmetics counters in dept. stores, e.g. Bobbi Brown

put toothpast on it por aloe vera oil perferable from the plant itself or even tea tree oil
