"Oneness" and "truth" are not at odds -- the true Christian Church (comprised of genuine believers) are "one" -- though they may go to different churches that believe somewhat differently on seconary matters. The "oneness" comes from Jesus' single, finished, completed work of redemption.

Unity at the expense of truth is not biblical. We are called to put away petty squabbles, love each other unconditionally, pray with each other, forgive each other, treat each other like we would like to be treated, study with each other, and the Spirit of Truth will lead us into all truth. However, compromising basic Christian doctrine for the sake of unity is something Martin Luther could not do, and we should not do. There can be no unity Christ and antiChrist. The ecumenical movement at end times is what the antiChrist power is urging to bring in the mark of the beast.

I would think that following the Ten Commandments should be the basis and not any false concept of unity, all it take for evil to triumph is for good peole to say nothing. Jesus was often challenging the satus quo and the powers that be and there is no reason Christains are not doing the same. "I am the way, the light and the TRUTH"

If they can't agree then best to break off. Better that staying and fighting God doesn't like that. So if you at least can pray and worship with a few people you agree with it will be more qualified worship. What can we do it's the age of Kali (quarrel and hypocrisy) Prabhupada also said this for The International Society for Krishna Consciousness but people have opinions which are valid and don't work well in main stream organizations

It is very important to be "one" in unity as a congregation and know the truth about what the Bible really teaches.

That question is somewhat irrelevant in my opinion. Disunity is firmly entrenched and only God can fix it.
Jesus' great desire was for His followers to be united, but He knew it was not to be. Mankind was not ready at that time for unity. This is what I believe He wished to tell us about in John 16:12 but He couldn't. We wouldn't understand.
As such, He didn't leave instruction on how His faith was to remain united. As a result, from day one it was splintered, with those splinters subdividing into smaller and smaller splinters.
Here's the clincher: God knows that we are ready for unity now so He has sent us what we need to know in order to acheive and maintain it. And it's worked for over 150 years. http://www.planetbahai.org/cgi-bin/linklibrary.pl?pageid=66

well, there's strength in numbers
..but a lot of times, pastor's and churches do have their own agendas that may or may not be good for the Whole..which is why it's so important to continue or own individual search for the Way, Truth and Life.
i believe Jesus would mean it to mean "ONE" as in, do not fight amongst yourselves. know that God is your God, the one and only... it does'nt really matter how or why or what u RULES and REGULATIONS you believe in, as long as the TRUTH that Jesus is our Savior is the one thing that keeps us together in our faith. and if u think about it, the only things that separate us in our faith and theories is How, Why, When, etc, of what we *should* do, how we should live our lives, etc...that doesn't matter! as long as u focus on Jesus and His sacrifice, and live JOYFULLY in His love, we will be free to continously seek what is Positive, Healthy and Happy...and we will be able to pick ourselves up and start over when we mess up, and forgive each other for mistakes, because those things are not important..what IS important is that we are ONE with God, and that's all that matters. good luck to us all~

Best question of the week, Midge!!!
No. Being "one" in the sense of Christ's prayer in the Garden...that is the scriptural imperative...
BUT...NOT at the expense of Truth.
I cannot be "one" in "Communion" who do not take Jesus at His Word when He says: "This IS My Body...This IS My Blood"...
That is Truth. His Resurrection Power LIVES in that Holy and Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Truth trumps "oneness" in that regard.

Jesus lost to Herod as the king of the jews.
some jews said Ceasar was their only king however pilot a subject of ceasar met king herod and didn't kill him as heritic not beleiving ceasar is the only sovereign lord who is God so many gods exist but only one of them actually fit all the descriptions and its quite silly how that happened but God uses what is considered silly in order to shame the rich and powerfull. Thats why they might have put a HIT out on God ie to preserve their power. its the reason Jesus died.

Being unified is not more important than the truth it is part of the path that leads to the truth. One can't know the truth if they aren't unified.

I think what was meant by that was: Let's all not be assholes. Try to be good people. Help each other out with that.
That's the way I took it. Jesus seemed like a mellow fellow.
