if you call it a home based business, then you would need a license,, if you call it cutting your friends hair, then you wouldnt,,, they can "gift" you a few dollars (aka tips) anytime they want to, and anyone can be your friend

As long as a liscense board inspector doesn't come knocing on your door. If you are doing this for friends and they "tip" you there is no reason for anyone to say anything. But, if you are running a business out of your home you have to be a liscense cosmetoligist and have a permit through the state board in which state you are from.

You can cut anyone's hair you choose, as long as you aren't charging them for the service. Then it would be a business, and you would need both a business license and a cosmetology license. As far as the tips, you can accept them as a gift if a person chooses to give you one. But again, you can't ask for money for cutting their hair without being a licensed cosmetologist and business.

No, you can not get into trouble, as long as it IS free of charge. You can accept tips, but you can not ask for them.
If you are actually licensed, but not licensed to cut hair at your home, you can be fined.

In Florida the law is:
Any cosmetology services for any kind of compensation received for the service is illegal. Examples of compensation are cash, goods, services, etc. Tips are compensation and an attempt to skirt the law.

I don't think so...but you you shouldn't ask for tips.
