Yes, you can check run a free check on a car at some sites like nicb.org but the information is limited. In the case of nicb, they only check if the car has been reported as stolen. I know there are sites providing information for free but then again, you cannot find a site that will provide the complete vehicle report for free. Usually, the information is very limited. That is why, if you want to avoid hassles and not waste time, get a paid one. Carfax is the most expensive but you can get cheap alternatives for as low $4.99 here
