They are the 'chosen people.' This means that Jews are chosen for the responsibility of obeying the 613 commandments, not for priviledges. Every other human is seen as righteous in the eyes of the Jews, as long as they obey the Noahide Laws (which are much fewer than 613!)
Jews are 'chosen people' not because they are special in any other way apart from the fact they are (Orthodox Jews anyway) descendants of Abraham, and are a race as well as a religion.

According to how I interpreted the Bible:
They're "God's people" in the sense that God chose them to do his earthly work, and God also chose them to receive his blessings and favor. Everyone else is still a free to become God's. The point is, God gave people free will and freedom, so you don't have to be His if you don't want to be.
