What does he like to do? Remember... he doesn't have to pick a career now for the rest of his life. I've chosen several different careers in my life since college (I'm now 45). As we change, our interests and desires change. Give him time.

His school will most likely have a career services department, which should be able to help him with that.

If he is trying to choose a college major, the way I did it was to get the "degree course lists" from my college, and I put them on a clipboard (which covered the top), and I chose the page(s) that listed the coursework I thought I would enjoy the most. It turned out to be a degree that I wouldn't have expected, and I have never regretted it.

Whatever he does, he should start developing skills (e.g. (computers communications/people, and research skills) and experiences (internships, travel abroad) that will help him in his career later in life.

He needs to make a list of things he likes to do.

Then narrow that list down to things he would be interested in pursuing as a career.

Let him intern or take a few workshops based on his list.

It will help him determine what works best for him after having a little hands on experience.
