Why dont we try it out. I am simply going to be giving you a long answer to your very own question to see if you will select me as the best answer. After all, this is a full proof experiment - it answers the question at hand, while solving a whole other issue.
I feel that when someone leaves me a long answer, they know what they are talking about. If it has lots of information about the given topic, i love to read it. If it is nonesense, extremely slow to read, and has terrible english, i hate to read it, and dont bother giving them the number 1 answer spot.
Then, there are the simple 1 liners that give the best answer. If i ask a yes or no or cant or can question, then i dont want some explination unless the answer is yes or the answer is can. If the answer is simply "you cant" then thats all there is to it. Remember- the best answers are those that do their jobs. The best answers have the most information, while only answering the question at hand a minimal number of times.
Long answers like this may be hard to read, but they show effort, and most of the time the people know what they are trying to say. This is a perfect experiment no? i hope this helps answer your question, and maybe now you will see why the longest are sometimes the best.

No, I don't feel obligated. If it's obviously a cut and paste answer, and the person didn't even take the time to type out something from personal experience, generally I stop reading as soon as I realize this, give it a thumbs down, and move to the next answer.
If someone took the time to type the answer and it's from personal experience, it depends on how accurate the information is as to if I give them best answer or not.

Not really. A lot of times the person has either cut and paste or they are just rambling on, when a shorter answered would have answered the question just fine.
But if the answer shows that they thought about the question and made a real effort to give a clear answer, then I'll give it to them -- if the answer is not so long that I don't want to read it.

Only if that very long answer makes since to me I will give them a best answer..Sometimes I don't need a really long answer to give a best answer. I do like it if people give an answer and explain the answer in detail. Not just answer Yes or No to an answer without giving detail.

If their answer makes sense, I give 10 points but I have seen some people type a long answer that was off the wall or just plain ignorant.

No long answers are usually cut and paste jobs that could have been done with a link. If the answer is well thought out and useful then it's the best answer. Quantity does not equal quality.

to no longer sound like a clever-a-- right here.....i'm severe. I went on your profile, looked on the questions you have asked contained in the previous and that i might desire to assert.....your questions pass away you uncovered to corny and smarta-- solutions. I even have needed to nicely known something till now, placed a question at right here and doubtless no longer thought approximately what might desire to ensue and had a gaggle of goofballs placed loopy, stupid and irrelevant stuff at right here just to be humorous. Please don't be indignant. one element to undergo in recommendations, some basically examine the highlighted question and don't examine the different data which clarifies your question and then supply a smarty pants answer. attempt being slightly greater concise with your headline question so as that the "different data" is minimum, it may help sparkling out the a--holes that are basically right here to make exciting and not help. wish this permits.

Not necessarily. I give it to the most accurate, well-written and substantiated answer, regardless of length. Of course, such answers tend to be a little longer than "no u do this$@!" but that's incidental to expressing a complete thought and response.

Not necessarily. A best answer can even be just one word. Content is more important than quantity.

no, i hate long answers, i usually pick the most informative answers that are short and to the point, i hate it when someone recites the entire encyclopedia to answer a question.
