After removal of this polyp, how long should it be before someone should have a follow up appointment??

These are simple polyps that normally removed at sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy by snaring. I agree with the other answer which says 6 months and then a year follow up, at which point your colon will be imaged, normally with a colonoscope just to ensure there are no further polyps devleloping.
Do not take the advice to speak to an oncologist! It is not cancer! If you felt the need to speak to anyone, a general surgeon or gastroenterologist would be more appropriate.

I assume this is a villour colon polyp that has been given a fancy name. Six months first and then a year for checkups.

This should depend upon the area that it was removed from. And, depending upon the degree of benignity, the area may need to be re-biopsied. Your doctor should be telling you this; call his office and speak to him. If you do not get satisfaction, go there and demand to speak to him/her. It is your body and you need to have this answer even if it just to make you breathe easier. If you still cannot get satisfaction, then go to your nearest hospital and have a conference with the resident oncologist. Good luck
