Toy breeds are bred for companionship, they are bred for laying in your lap and devoting all of their attention to you and you should do the same right back. You just have a really sensitive dog and it is probably very intuitive. It knows when you are down or not feeling well, it knows when you need love and when it needs you. You are very lucky to have a sensitive and caring little dog.

He's a softie because he was probably raised that way. Its a very good thing though because you wouldn't want to have an agressive dog living with you.

Consider your self lucky and don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Most are pretty aggressive!

You must have socialized him very well, most westies can be very territorial and aggressive toward anyone who gets near "their" person or stuff. Which is not attractive. Be glad he's friendly!
