I don't think we should have a minimum wage. The market would take care of itself, if left to do it's job. Employers would be forced to pay a rate that attracts applicants. If there are no applicants for a job, then you have to raise your offer. This is a fair and balanced system - if we also get rid of all the illegal aliens.

"...hard working american citizen that can not live off of $5.15/h..."
Exactly which Americans can't live off $5.15/h? Please show them too me. I have never, ever seen a person die in the street in America, no matter how much money they make. So please, show me 1 person that can't live (is dead) because they make minimum wage.
There are 2 myths (or lies) about the minimum wage that you are being decieved by. The first is the one you stated: that people can't live on minimum wage. That is a lie. Anyone can live on minimum wage. A more accurate statement would be that people can't live comfortably on minimum wage. On minimum wage you'll have to share an apartment with someone and can't have a new car, and can't eat fast food every day, but you won't starve to death.
The second myth is that of the "livable wage". There is no such thing. If you raise the minimum wage then costs go up, and prices go up, and that is called inflation. Since costs go up with wages, you are right back where you started and you have to raise wages again, which raises prices again; creating an endless loop of inflation. Further more, what defines a "livable wage"? If people are not dying now at $5.15/h doesn't that make it a "livable wage", since they are living? If you are talking about a comfortable wage instead of a living wage, who defines that? Enough money to live in your own house driving a new Lexus and eating steak every day? Why not, if you are just going to arbitrarily make up a wage because you don't want to share an apartment and drive a used car?
The minimum wage is a bad idea, and the whole concept of a "liveable" wage is a lie. It's shocking that our society is so incredibly uneducated about math and economics that people believe in this garbage.

You're right, a person cannot live off of that and at the same time, when minimum wage goes up so will the price of everything. Guess it doesn't make a difference.

I think you are right. They need to raise the minimum wage to a liveable range. Then they need to get control of illegals and start punishing these people who are hiring illegals. It will eventually drive up prices on goods and services, but so be it. It might also lower the costs with our medical care, etc..

I don't know about that. In my state minimum wage is going up to $7.50 after 01/01/07. A year after that it will be at $8.00. I don't think anyone can live on $5.15 p/hr!

I think the as*holes could pay an illegal, undocumented worker less that $5.00 and hour. What do you think?
