It really depends on your hair type. My favorites are the Tigi Bed Head line, and the Nexxus Therappe/Humectress. Evaluate your hair type - Dry, Oily, Normal, Color Treated, etc., and be sure to pick a shampoo and conditioner that are formulated for your hair type. I do believe it's best to use the same line for shampoo and conditioner, as they're formulated to work together.
Some great ones:
Nexxus, Tigi, Paul Mitchell, Biolage

Im glad you want to try proffesional products and since i dont know what kind of hair you have all i can suggest is that look for a type of line that is made specifically for the results you want. Say for ex. you have curly hair and is very frizzy. Look for a smoothing shampoo , or a creamy like shampoo for curly hair if you want to keep it curly but frizz-free.Color treated or volumizing, there are so many out there that can confuse anybody. Dont use stuff that wont help you , ask your stylist and take advantage of the x-mas sets and special prices that are going on now so you can try many until you find what you like for not a lot of money. Travel sizes are good samplers.

It depends what you're trying to achieve. If you want your hair to be weighed down and have build-up, then any salon product will do. I used to work in a salon and would get various products for free. They did nothing to my hair but make it feel dirty, and yes I know how to wash my hair. You're just paying for the name and it's also a profit for the salon.
