My boyfriend and his family are Seventh-Day Adventists, and they invite me to go with them to some church activities sometimes. Can you tell me anything more about this religion?

This is what I know. I worked with a guy who was one once. We were on mandatory 12 hours a day 6 days a week, with voluntary o.t. on Sundays. He got to leave work an hour before sundown on Friday, and didn't have to work until after daybreak Monday morning. Great deal isn't it?

And, this is the best part, he was dating an underage girl. He would race from work at noon to go to her home for a "nooner". So one day he was being an a** about not having to work the weekends

I said, "so, let me get this right, a Seventh-Day Adventist, cannot work the weekends to honor God. But they CAN screw their underage and illegal girlfriend in her parents home. Great Religion!

So really, they are like all Christians, some are devout and truly believe, some are the "feel gooders" that only go to church to hedge their bets, and some are scum. See just like every other type.

What do you think about them?

I'm a Seventh-day Adventist too, and I love to be a SDA.

I don't know, but I think you're a young girl, aren't you? You've probably noted that there are a lot of youth programs and out-door activities. One example is camping, have you attended one already? It's fun! isn't it?

Well, there are many activities within the church, but we're not going to talk about them right now. You want to know about their beliefs, don't you? 19jay63 already gave you a good answer.

Seventh-day Adventist church was founded after 1844 (the more you study your Bible, you'll learn that this year was part of a prophecy). SDA church believes in the second comming of Jesus Christ (that's where the word "Adventist" comes from), and in the Seventh-day as the Lord's Sabbath for men.

"What is Seventh-day Adventism and what do Seventh-day Adventists believe?"

Answer: There seem to be different "degrees" of Seventh-day Adventism. Some Seventh-day Adventists believe identically to orthodox Christians, other than believing that worship should be held on Saturday and that the Saturday Sabbath should still be observed. If these are the only differences, then yes, a person could be a Seventh-day Adventist and still be a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

However, some Seventh-day Adventists believe in much more than a Saturday Sabbath / worship day. Seventh-day Adventists have been known to believe in: the annihilation of the wicked instead of an eternal hell, that believers who die enter a state of soul sleep, and that a person must observe the Saturday Sabbath in order to be saved. Other problems with some Seventh-day Adventists are: belief in Ellen G. White, the founder of Seventh-day Adventism, as a true prophet of God even though many of her "prophecies" failed to come true - and - that Jesus entered a second phase of His redemptive work on October 22, 1844, as "prophesied" by Hiram Edson.

So, What is Seventh-day Adventism and what do Seventh-day Adventists believe? Should a Christian attend a Seventh-day Adventist church? Due to the potential doctrinal issues mentioned above, I would strongly encourage believers to not get involved in Seventh-day Adventism. Yes, a person can be an advocate of Seventh-day Adventism and still be a believer. At the same time, there are enough potential issues to make attending a Seventh-day Adventist church questionable at best.

They are a very conservative branch of Christianity. They think the Old Testament laws should still be followed, including the dietary laws and the Sabbath (which they hold on Saturday). Because of this, they ignore a lot of Paul's letter to the Galatians. Aside from that, they tend to be very bitter against the institution of the Catholic Church (note: I said the Catholic Church, not Catholics themselves). One SDA seminar I went to was devoted to trying to show how the Catholic Church was the Antichrist and the Little Horn written about in the Book of Daniel. I went to a SDA camp and their sermons were very good and they do preach Christ but they tend to concentrate on works (obeying both religious and civil laws, dietary laws, sabbath laws, etc). In this sense, they are very very strict. They don't seem to actually violate any Biblical scriptures, they just emphasize things that most Christian denominations do not emphasize, such as the Sabbath which most Christians don't even consider to apply anymore (apparently we are down to 9 out of 10 commandments most Christians think). Thats why I repeat: they are very conservative and strict.

Yes they are vegetarian is the main thing and they worship from Friday evening to Saturday evening. (the Sabbath day) They are very nice I went to two Seventh_Day churches. They don't actually understand the whole purpose of being vegetarian though but I respect the are veggie.

They worship the sabbath and think by keeping the sabbath they will get into heaven, them and them alone. They do not eat meat. I guess they missed that chapter when God talked to Noah when he got off the ark and said you can eat the grains and meats now. Or when Jesus Christ said it is not what you eat that defiles you, but what comes out of you. Or when God declared all foods fit for eating, thats right all food including "the evil swine" they think pigs are dirty because they eat their own poop, but yet chickens eat their own poop too. They are a cult.
