No, being a Christian in itself is not offensive. I have wonderful friends who are Christians. what IS offensive is when someone (not just Christians but of any religious belief) tries to convert or convince me that their belief system is the only right one and I should follow it, etc. To show a loving spirit, well, that should be the goal of all of us. That should be a human goal not a religious goal! Best wishes!

There's nothing offensive about saying, "I'm a Christian." The offense comes when they say, "I'm a Christian, and this is why YOU MUST be a Christian to!! Jesus is your savior, why won't you accept that he loves you?! You've been tricked onto your current path by SATAN and will end up in HELL if you don't ACCEPT Jesus as your SAVIOR RIGHT NOW." It is unfortunately the Christians that do this that get the most attention, not the rest of the peaceful, respectful followers out there.
Bright blessings!

It's not offensive to state that you are Christian.
It IS offensive to follow that up with "and you're not so you're going to burn in hell, you are practicing a religion from SATAN, you need to be what I am and do what I do and believe what I believe, I'm better than you...".etc.
In general, I advise anyone and everyone that your religious affiliation is not not something to volunteer all the time, but perfectly fine to answer when and if you're asked. And it's utterly appropriate in forums like this.

God calls upon all Christians to be witnesses of Him. Unfortunately, there are individuals who think that means they have to preach to others and tell them they are going to hell. So sad. What God wants us to do is spread the gospel (literally meaning: the good news) We can do that without being offensive, rude, or condemning. But we are not meant to say nothing about it. We are asked to be "like a city on a hill...{that} cannot be hidden" Shine your light!

Is it something to be ashamed of? No. How can someone show a loving spirit if they dont know its coming from a Christian.

It is SO NOT offensive. I, a Catholic Christian, happily tell anyone who asks. They don't seem very offended. I also don't say " It's the true religion, be apart of it or go to Hell. " Only if they ask my true opinion.

One day I was sitting at a street festival and an obvious group of Christians came by declaring that we bystanders were chained to our evil lusts and could only be free if we joined them. I laughed at their antics and immediately they challenged me and the group of friends I was with. I told them as I now tell you, we who follow Jesus and have peace are not to point fingers at those who don't, we are here to share the peace as Jesus did. Jesus says that by our example will we witness best. And like all of his teachings they do work.

If it's in the context of conversation then of course not. If it's said to try and seem above others then it's very offensive.

Telling some one you are Christian is not offensive, discussing your beliefs is not offensive. Harping on or telling non believers they are wrong is offensive.
