The "puss" is a mixture of Oil called Sebum and dead skin cells coupled with the bacteria that causes the pimple.
The skin is elastic meaning that it is constantly pulling tight over your bones (that is why can have baggy skin). After breaking the pimple open the skins natural tendency to pull is forcing out the excess residue inside.
You can probably just grab the base of the skin and squeeze forward to remove the vast majority of the puss. You should clean the affected area with soap and water or even a bit of bacterial soap. There are prescriptions you can get now taken orally (pill by mouth) that help manage the deeper pimples.
Hope that helps,
Will

The word puss generally implies the results of the breakdown of cells and it does not always mean that there is an infection. If an area continues to drain however the presence of infection is likely although it may be due to inflammation only. Trying to 'pop' or 'scrape' a pimple by yourself is not generally a good idea. As facial infections may be more serious than other skin infections it sounds as if your friend should be seen by a physician and they are likely to prescribe antibiotics just to be on the safe side.

I'll try to help you. Puss is a form of infection. I'm no m.d. but a member of my family has very ugly acne. You can wash your face to much and do more harm than good. A dermatologist would be able to help, I on the other hand believe a visit to your local heath store is a better way to go. There are so many natural ways to deal with acne out there. In my teenage years...decades ago!, I used rubbing alcohol, dabbed it on the zit and that worked for me. Good luck, I feel for your friend.

Puss is the body's reaction to infection. Most infections are caused by bacteria, the most common of which is called Staphylococcus epidermis, but most people just call it Staph. These Staph bacteria live all over our bodes, but usually do not cause any problems. However, when our skin breaks or is punctured, the bacteria get inside our body. Our immune system responds to eliminate the invader. Local immune compartment cells (white blood cells known as monocytes or macrophages) respond first, and attempt to engulf the invaders. If the number of bacteria is great, it is likely that they will grow faster than the local cells can eliminate them.
The local cells send out chemical "messages" that tell the rest of the immune system that they need help. More white blood cells are called into the local area by these messages. The white or off-white color is the result of millions of these white blood cells. The odor is due to the growth of bacteria, the chemicals being released by the immune system, and the death of cells. Draining the wound helps get rid of large numbers of bacteria (which grow very rapidly), which helps to eliminate them from the wound.
I would tell your friend to get proactiv solution for her acnes. Its really good tell her to try it ;)

Pus is a bacteria aka an infection. Acne is caused by the staph bacteria so remind her to be gentle when washing her face and to use a mild soap or cleanser. Also remind her to change the washcloth often or use disposable cloths so she doesn't spread the bacteria to other parts of her face. Since the acne is pretty severe she would be wise to see a doc and get professional help for her acne.

Her skin condition could be deeper than just acne. You should recommend to her that she see a dermatologist. This way the doctor can correctly diagnose the problem and recommend a skin regime so that her skin can be clear.

reaction to infection. your friend needs to see a dermatologist...there are medications (even antibiotics if worse comes to worse) that the doctor can prescribe to help your friend. DON'T try and scrape anymore -- you could cause her a lot of permanent damage by leaving behind scars...simply put: your friend needs a dermatologist. good luck!!!
