Man, I wish I was so cool that I could get presents from people who cared about me and then insult them on a public forum.
Grow up. And leave her. She's way to good for you.

No - it is not necessarily gross. Some people like to shop at estate sales because it is a good way to find antique items at good prices. I have a friend who got an antique Mont Blanc pen in its original case for $100 at an estate sale. On "The Antiques Roadshow", one gentleman acquired a set of antique lapel pins that turned out to be worth much more than he paid. In your case, I suggest you consider the gift item and the thought behind it on its own merits. If you are still uncomfortable, then gently clear the air with your g/f so she understands your feelings and can choose more appropriate gifts for you in the future.

Well, you didn't say what the item is. Many people love antiques and appreciate an item that has some age and character more than something off the shelf at Target or Home Depot.
I hope you had the good grace to thank her for the gift and hide your disgust. Her intentions may have been something you simply do not understand at this point in your life. Years from now, you may look back and treasure the item that she chose for you.

Well, you didn't state what the item was, but in most cases, I think things from estate sales would rock! Sometimes you can get very expensive items for a steal! The gift shows she was thinking of you and took an actual effort. Don't be so superficial!!! Be thankful!!

What did she get you from the estate sale? Was it a leather-bound first edition of your favorite book? An antique watch? China? Jewelry?
You can get some beautiful and extremely valuable things at an estate sale.
I doubt very highly she gave you half-eaten McDonalds, or someone else's dirty underwear. I think you should get over yourself and consider yourself lucky she thought to get you anything.

Estate sales may have very, very expensive items at very cheap prices. You could have an item that is more valuable than you can imagine.
By the way your sentence should read "My birthday was on Thursday. My girlfriend gave me something she bought at an estate sale.
I personally think that is disqusting. What do you think?"

Depends on what the gift was to me. Like if it was a used toothbrush or a person's body part then yes that would be disgusting. If it was a shirt or piece of furnature I weren't think much of it.

I personally think you should be grateful you recieved anything at all. How do you know where she got your gift. I find it tacky that she would tell you where she got your gift from. It's not gross unless she actually brought you something that was on the dead person's body when they passed. I hope she dumps your ungrateful butt.

Examine her motives - was it just cheap, convenient, and she saw getting your gift as a chore, or was she shocked that you didn't love it? Is it something she honestly, truly thought you'd like? Maybe she doesn't see anything wrong with it, and now that she knows you do, she feels like crap and won't do it again. Focus on her, not the item.

I think you should accept the gift with grace and gratitude. She thought enough of you to go to the estate sale, bid on the item and give it to you. Is it underwear??? If not then what's the big deal???
