To balance sweetness add acid to it. Tomatoes are usually a good source of acid in a chili. However, if the tomatoes aren't acidic enough, you could add some vinegar, or even some wine to your chili, to add the acidity you need to balance the sweetness. Remember when adding acidity you have to take into account any new flavors it's adding that could also throw the dish off.

Extra chili, tomato, cumin, mustard and vinegar a little at a time - one at a time adjusting the flavor as you go. This is a good opportunity to try a super hot chili you have in the cupboard or sauce in the fridge it will be balanced by the sugar.

1. Add more of all the other ingredients.
2. Throw it out and try again.
3. I believe that salt somewhat counteracts sweetness. So would, I think, something bitter. You could try adding a can of tomato paste (a little bit bitter/acidic) or just some salt, see what happens.
Sorry, that's about all I can think of.
(Oh yeah , I just looked at answer one about cooking a peeled potato or two in it. I understand that to be effective for absorbing salt, but have never heard of using it to get rid of sugar. Who knows, maybe it works - can't really hurt I guess.)

Strain some of the liquid, re-water it down, add more beans and tomatoes, as well as more chili powder.

Throw a potato or two in and add some more tomatoes. The acid from the tomatoes should draw the sweetness out. Good Luck. If that doesn't work, throw it out and start over.

sugar of any kind is suppose to "bring out" the flavor of the tomato...so add a little more tomato product to it...you could also cook some macaroni and add it in...as the pasta will take in some of the liquid
