I in my mind there is no doubt that the world would be immensely better without these ridicules fairy tails with invisible friends and and immortality, other tosh to numerous to list. People could use their energies on reality, help others, investing in the future of mankind. Instead , what do they leave for the future, only indoctrinated children that don't grow up. Find it unnecessary to develop their intellect, question the things around them, examine and learn, thus passing on advanced knowledge and a desire to increase mans capabilities. Where would we be without those who did this ? How much further could we have developed if all had pursued these goals ? !

A lot of people say that the world would be a better place without religon, but I think there is two sides to this.
First of all, I believe that if there was no religon, there would be no, or at least much less wars because in the bible it said how Muslims and Jews will be argueing forever more due to the whole Abraham and his two sons situation...and just look at today- all you ever hear about on the TV is the wars between them two religions.
Also, people are living by the rules in their religon and some people (not all) look down on people who don't live this way which can cause a lot of arguements.
Another thing is that there is a lot of racial prejudice between groups of people in some places, and these are for no particular reason, and just becuase these people are different some people think it's okay to judge them, make jokes, and even physically attack them. This can even cause the other people to retaliate, just like what nearly happened over here in England this summer- A Muslim mans father got killed by racists in London and he carried a grudge, and then he brainwashed a lot of people and they nearly got away with bombing that plane.

On the other hand, I think that religion disaplins people and that they have a reason not to go off the rails. Religion has rules about sex, how to treat other people and how to live your life as well as many other things which actually help to control society.
If there was no religon then the world could become out of control because there wouldn't be anything stopping you from doing things which today we would frown upon; such as stealing, murduring and being a total sceeze!

So yeah, although I do believe religon has caused a lot of conflict in the world, I think we actually need it otherwise people wouldn't have any limits!

If religious people practised what they preach... peace and love etc... no wars, no murder - it goes on daily. But... lets just have a quick view of the world today... Shia and Sunny Muslims in Iraq. Muslims V's Jews, Al-Quieda, Fundamentalist Christians. Well that's the peace, love and war dealt with. Murder in the name of God... I refer you to all of the above... and add The God Christian Armies in Africa.
There have been more wars in the name of religion over the centuries than any other.
But would the world be better without religion?... The world will only be better, when Humans are no longer part of it... sadly!

Well if we were to ask the people at the Spanish Inquisition or those slaughtered by the crusaders and so many more who have died because they don't follow the others belief, then i guess you might argue a big yes!
Ask the Jewish or Palestinian mothers who have had their babies blown up over them in pieces.
Religion is not about god, or division or belief.

When we realise this, and therefore become religious in reality, then and only then will religion have a place in the world.

This is a difficult one as everytime i answer something like this then the religious people seem to give me the thumbs down...lol

I think it would be better as there would be less wars as 88% of wars are caused by religion... but saying that, humans would more than likely find something else to have a conflict over... they would probably have a war because there is noo religion. Im not religious myself but i think if it helps someone, they dont ram their belief down other people gob and get on with other religions then let them have it.

Religious believers are often targeted as fanatics, but the vast majority are peace-loving Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists. The world would be a bad place without religion.

Yes, all you have to do is count the number of people who have been murdered in Iraq and Afghanistan this year, by religious lunatics of every persuasion especially the so called Christian American and British armies and then times this by a few hundred million and you will get somewhere near the total of individuals killed since the world was formed by religious idiots.

It will be a better place. Think how many billions are flushed down the drain in church building, paying clerics, buying plush furniture and art treasures for the Vatican etc. and think how pleasing it would be to God if all that money instead went to alleviating the suffering of the poor and needy. God wants religion to be destroyed and it will be soon.

No religion, no terrorist nut cases blowing us up. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to work that one out. No jw's banging on your door when your trying to show the wife how manly you are,( its happened ) No hypercritical parents getting their kids baptised and then never going to church ever again, No veils scaring our kids in the classroom, no religious immigrants trying to turn our country into their own,,,, sounds good to me.

Hmm...Tricky one, Sometimes I think Religon is good, because it gives people something to cling on to and help them through hard times, but Religion has caused wars, terrorism and stuff like that. so over all, its a even argument on both sides.
